Iceland
My little trip around the world continues...
South West of Iceland
Freedom starts with the rental car to drive around the country and explore the area, the price was good for a long weekend (~170E, 4days, automatic, 4x4, 2 drivers).
Around -11 degrees even with my ski suits it was cold. Sunrise set for around 10am, sunset for 5pm ish, we enjoyed and have a lot of fun.
Initially came to chase some northern lights and we were served! Driving around is really cool, despite the snow, the roads are clear and it's safe. Watch out due to sun glare, reflecting on the white snow makes it complicated to see well ahead. I really enjoyed the nice landscape, hills, sometimes we felt like skiing with the car on ski tracks!
We experienced The Blue Lagoon, man-made largest lagoon, with its amazing geothermal spa is located in a lava field creating a favorable geothermal powered attraction. It is indeed super-hot in the water, and as it was snowing and very cold outside it made it even more exciting! Magically well mixed warm waters highly enriched with silica and sulfur having a therapeutic facets for those who bathe in the waters. It is very well done so that if you have to go out you don’t necessarily stand in the cold, they are different passage around. Arrived without booking (not recommended), there was space for 2 and we got in and paid around 80Euros. It is expensive... and that was the cheapest!
In the city of Reykjavik you will notice the Hallgrimskirkja, a Lutheran church also known as the Church of Iceland consecrated in October 1986.
The geysers are definitely a magical place! Water can come up to about 80 meters high every 4-5 minutes, very impressive.
See below some videos !
-Land of mountains, rivers, waterfalls, geysers, lava fields and glaciers! All you can see even for a weekend. -
Northern Lights
So desperate to see the northern lights we had missed in Finland we had good luck on first day as the probability was very high. We made it! The most crazy thing I ever saw. Parked in the middle of no where to be in full darkness, car turned off, and standing outside it, looking at the magic, colorful, impressive lights in the sky, mixed with shinny stars... while freezing to death and getting back in the car to warm up again for few seconds.
Food Love in Iceland
Well for a food lover I haven't been out a lot... just look at the bills. I had to make some strategic choices here :)
Fish is amazing ! Food was tasty and in good proportions. Waiters very nice and welcoming !
Reykjavik all the way north east south west !
Natural beauty pictures can't translate enough..
